About Us

BACKGROUND

The Thai community in NSW grew by 30% between 1991 and 1996. With this growth continuing, Welfare needs within the community increased dramatically. The Thai Welfare Association was established in 1990 to provide an organisation run by, and for, Thai people in Australia.

Thais in Australia face problems and challenges just as do other ethnic groups. Adapting to a new society and culture, maintaining identity, contributing to Australia society and gaining access to community services are all areas in which Thais individually and as a community may benefit from assistance.

The Thai Welfare Association is supported by the state and Federal Governments of Australia and by the Government of Thailand. It is a community organization managed by a committee elected annually by its members.

It is to this end that the Thai Welfare Association was established, to provide an organization run by and for the Thai community to participate in a multicultural society.

OBJECTIVES

1. To give advice and practical information to Thais living in, or visiting, Australia
2. To help Thai people access mainstream Australian service when they need them
3. Where service are not available, or are not suitable, to lobby to have appropriate services made available

How to achieve the objectives

1. We will help clients, no matter what their status; we will keep their details absolutely confidential and we will not judge our clients problem.
2. We will focus our limited resources on welfare related work and we will be absolutely professional in our financial administration.
3. Within our available resources, we will give support to our worker and training to volunteers.
4. We will work and liaise with other organisations in the Thai community in order to avoid wasting scarce resources.

ความเป็นมา

ในขณะนี้มีคนไทยเข้ามาอยู่อาศัยในประเทศออสเตรเลียในลักษณะต่าง ๆ กันเป็นจำนวนมากขึ้นทุกปี คนไทยเหล่านี้บางส่วนประสบปัญหาในการปรับตัวให้เข้ากับสภาพแวดล้อมใหม่ เช่น วัฒนธรรม กฎหมาย ภาษา เป็นต้น

คนไทยกลุ่มหนึ่งจึงมีความคิดเห็นว่าควรจะมีองค์กรที่ให้ความช่วยเหลือเกี่ยวกับสวัสดิภาพของคนไทยเหล่านั้น โดยประสานงานกับหน่วยงานของรัฐและองค์กรต่าง ๆ ที่มีอยู่แล้ว เช่น สถานกงสุลไทย วัดไทย และสมาคมต่าง ๆ ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับคนไทยในออสเตรเลีย

และนี่คือที่มาของสวัสดิภาพสมาคม ซึ่งจัดตั้งโดยกลุ่มคนไทยเพื่อให้บริการแก่คนไทยในการมีส่วนร่วมในสังคมหลากวัฒนธรรมในออสเตรเลีย

วัตถุประสงค์

1. เพื่อให้คำแนะนำและข้อมูลที่เป็นประโยชน์สำหรับคนไทยที่มาตั้งถิ่นฐานหรือมาเยือนประเทศออสเตรเลีย
2. เพื่อช่วยให้คนไทยได้ใช้บริการของหน่วยงานในประเทศออสเตรเลียตามความต้องการ
3. เพื่อช่วยเป็นปากเป็นเสียงในการเรียกร้องให้มีบริการที่เหมาะสมยิ่งขึ้น

เพื่อบรรลุวัตถุประสงค์

1. เราจะช่วยเหลือผู้มาใช้บริการทุกท่าน โดยเก็บข้อมูลเป็นความลับสุดยอด และเราจะไม่วิพากษ์วิจารณ์ปัญหาของผู้ใช้บริการ
2. เราจะใช้ทรัพยากรอันจำกัดของเราเพื่อสวัสดิการชุมชน และดูแลการเงินอย่างเป็นระบบ
3. เราจะสนับสนุนงานของเจ้าหน้าที่และฝึกงานให้แก่อาสาสมัคร
4. เราจะทำงานและประสานงานกับองค์กรอื่นในชุมชนไทย เพื่อให้ได้ประโยชน์สูงสุดจากทรัพยากรอันจำกัดของเรา
