The Thai Welfare Association (TWA) is an incorporated not-for-profit, community-based organisation assisting Thai people in NSW who, for whatever reason, find themselves in situations of vulnerability and helplessness. TWA is the only organisation in Australia working specifically for the welfare of people in the Thai community. Our clients include Thai youth, women, men and the elderly. We provide referral services, casework and other forms of support, guidance and assistance to Thai people who are in need, particularly where there are barriers to accessing other agency services.
A principal objective of TWA is to help and support Thai women who are experiencing, or who have experienced, domestic violence in any of its many forms. TWA provides information, referral to legal and counseling services, and campaigns to raise awareness of domestic violence, and its impact on families, in the wider community.
TWA is also focused upon helping and supporting those in the Thai community who are living with or recovering from mental health issues.
TWA’s organizational culture is client-focused and results driven. Our people are bi-lingual, speaking Thai and English, and we are experienced in a wide range of welfare, health, legal and community services. TWA is an award winning community service and we significantly contribute to the well-being of the wider Thai community in a variety of ways.
In recent years, apart from one part-time worker, the Association has been operating entirely on a volunteer basis. We rely on people of goodwill offering their skills and expertise in management, media, social work, welfare and community services, mental health, and the law.

OUR STORY ประวัติสมาคม
The Thai Welfare Association (TWA) was founded in Sydney in 1990 by a small group of Thais committed to helping those who had settled in Australia. It operated from cafes, then from a lectern set up in the reception area of the Royal Thai Consulate, and finally from its own modest offices, always near a place that recent arrivals to Sydney would know. Our present office is on the edge of Chinatown, not far from the precinct now known as Thaitown, a fast developing social and economic hub for Sydney’s Thai community.
From its beginnings as a loosely structured group some 25 years ago, the Thai Welfare Association today is a professionalised community organisation with formalised policies and procedures, a salaried staff member and business style management model.
In 2000 the Association was honoured by an award from His Majesty the King for its work with the Thai community in Australia.
ในขณะนี้มีคนไทยเข้ามาอยู่อาศัยในประเทศออสเตรเลียในลักษณะต่าง ๆ กันเป็นจำนวนมากขึ้นทุกปี คนไทยเหล่านี้บางส่วนประสบปัญหาในการปรับตัวให้เข้ากับสภาพแวดล้อมใหม่ เช่น วัฒนธรรม กฎหมาย ภาษา เป็นต้น คนไทยกลุ่มหนึ่งจึงมีความคิดเห็นว่าควรจะมีองค์กรที่ให้ความช่วยเหลือเกี่ยวกับสวัสดิภาพของคนไทยเหล่านั้น โดยประสานงานกับหน่วยงานของรัฐและองค์กรต่าง ๆ ที่มีอยู่แล้ว เช่น สถานกงสุลไทย วัดไทย และสมาคมต่าง ๆ ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับคนไทยในออสเตรเลีย สวัสดีภาพสมาคมจำเป็นต้องอาศัยความเอื้ออาทรของชุมชนคนไทยในการระดมทุน และนี่คือที่มาของสวัสดิภาพสมาคม ซึ่งจัดตั้งโดยกลุ่มคนไทยเพื่อให้บริการแก่คนไทยในการมีส่วนร่วมในสังคมหลากวัฒนธรรมในออสเตรเลีย
